The Washington Motion Picture Competitiveness Program (Washington Film Incentive) has been renewed by the state legislature for ten years. Congratulations to Amy Lillard at Washington Filmworks and her hard working team, as well as the hundreds of Washington film industry professionals who have pushed and pulled for this over the past several years.
This preserves the existing film incentive program AND saves the state film office from extinction, allowing Washington to stay in the game and compete for film projects to shoot here. The incentive cap is still small by any standard, but it provides a foundation to build on.
Thank you to everyone who called and emailed your legislators for support of this issue. And thank you to the Senators and Representatives who allowed this program to stay alive in spite of the MANY competing and conflicting priorities present in this year’s budget discussions.
